Tips to Clean Commercial Glued Down Carpet

Commercial carpets work difficult. All-day long, they welcome your customers into your building. Over time, that heavy foot traffic generates stains, wear spots, and discoloration. To keep your carpet looking refreshing, you need to clean it frequently.

The question is how to do that.

In Allied Facility Care, we specialize in cleaning commercial, glued-down carpets in Dallas, Texas, and the suburbs, and we've helped hundreds of businesses in the region keep their operations looking great.

In the article, we'll share a few of our best tips for removing spills, stains, and discoloration from the commercial carpets.

Let's get started.

5 STEPS TO CLEAN A COMMERCIAL GLUED DOWN CARPET

Whether you’re running a new business or an established, brick-and-mortar store, and this advice will help your carpeting look great once more:

STEP 1: VACUUM ALL OF THE CARPETING THOROUGHLY

Before you can begin the extraction process, you need to remove surface debris. The best way to do this is to use a HEPA vacuum to suck up loose soil. We recommend HEPA vacuums for a couple of reasons.

HEPA (which stands for high-efficiency particulate air) filters are mechanical air filters that use an extremely fine mesh to trap tiny pollutants. The testing criteria for real HEPA filters are 99.97% of particulates at the magnitude of 0.3 microns.

When you use a HEPA vacuum, then the filter will lift away particles of pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and smoke. Removing these pollutants in the space helps improve air quality and decrease allergy symptoms in your clients.

As you use the vacuum, make sure to cover every square inch of your carpet -- going under furniture like seats, chairs, and desks. This will make your professional carpet cleaning much more effective.

STEP 2: SPRAY PRE-SPRAY ON THE CARPET

This measure is much like pre-treating a tough stain in your favorite shirt. If you pre-spray your carpeting, you break up and loosen up grease, stains, ground-in dirt, and more. When it's time to clean the carpeting, the fibers will release debris more easily.
For best results, add pre-spray after you vacuum. After employing the pre-spray, wait 10-15 minutes for the method to penetrate the fibers of the carpet.

Using a handheld carpet brush, work the pre-spray gently into the fibers and then agitate the dirt.

STEP 3: STEAM CLEAN THE CARPET

Next, it is time to clean your commercial carpeting. When there are many methods to do this, we love to add a powder detergent. We put this detergent inside our truck-mounted machine and use it for your carpeting.

We as office cleaning services in Dallas favor this kind because it breaks dirt and lifts tough stains 10x better than its liquid detergent counterpart.

STEP 4: SHAMPOO THE CARPET

If there are dark stains in the highly-trafficked areas of your carpet, we use a pH seven shampoo to resolve the discoloration. Used along with a rotary scrubber, this shampoo program additionally removes foot patterns in the carpeting.

Unlike harsh cleaners, which can break down the fibers of the carpet, this shampoo has a neutral pH, so it's going to remain in the rug and keep working after the first application. The shampoo also neutralizes high-pH pre-spray and detergent.

The effect is a carpet that seems bright, plush, and lustrous.

STEP 5: INSTALL AIR MOVERS TO Accelerate THE DRYING PROCESS

While this part is optional, many business Owners want to expedite the drying process as far as you can. To help with this, we can install large, commercial-grade air movers to circulate air and eliminate moisture rapidly.

HOW DO YOU FIX A FLOODED COMMERCIAL GLUED DOWN CARPET?

Flooding can occur because of broken pipes, backed up drains, severe storms, and more. Unfortunately, if your carpet was polluted by sewage water in a flood, then it cannot be saved. In cases like this, let a professional company remove and replace the carpet for you.

If the flooding just involved greywater, though, it is usually possible to safely extract the moisture without changing the carpets. This is possible because glued-down carpeting, unlike conventional carpeting, does not have padding underneath.

In regular carpeting, this padding would have to be replaced, and would also require an antimicrobial to be sprayed to prevent mold.

If your company has a glued-down carpet, you can extract the moisture with professional carpet water extraction equipment. In certain ways, this makes glued-down carpeting much more convenient than ordinary carpeting.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN MY GLUED DOWN CARPETING?

Your business is an investment, and you wish to maintain your commercial carpet looking good. To do so, we recommend cleaning the carpet in high-traffic regions at least two or three times each year. In low-traffic places, once annually will be a lot.
